Review: Metacafe is a file sharing software that has a single purpose: to entertain its viewers. Share videos, games, images, and basically anything you want over the Internet. At first glance, this software might remind you of StumbleUpon, at least when it comes to the principle. While you have to use a browser to access StumbleUpon, Metacafe only requires installation. The actual setup process is not an issue, yet you are required to create a Metacafe account, which you have to confirm by visiting your e-mail account. The interface of Metacafe is pretty simple to understand, and it has three columns. In the first tab you can access your preferred categories, and there is also a link to a section called Content Settings where you can specify the type of content you are interested in, be it videos, images, or games. In the Content Settings window you also have access to other categories such as articles, stories, riddles, links, and animations, as well as the Family Filter option to make sure youngsters do not accidentally get exposed to adult content. According to your configuration and the countries you selected, Metacafe sends you content you may be interested in, on a regular basis (the first ones have the highest rating). In the second column you can select the content Metacafe has chosen for you, and in the third tab you can actually visualize the respective content. In addition, all users can upload, rate and comment on each piece of entertainment, save favorite content, and there is also a full screen option available (called TV Mode). What sets it apart from other similar software is the fact that Metacafe searches and downloads content in the background, without you even noticing this.
